~~And just when I thought I’d manage to stay at six characters.~~

Character's name: Yuzuriha Nekoi
Character's age: 14

Brief background:
Yuzuriha is one of the dragons of heaven, one of the seven seals. The youngest of the seals, Yuzuriha is from the Mitsumine Shrine, who are masters of the Inugami, which are dog-spirits. Yuzuriha’s family name, Nekoi, literally means “relies on cats” and is used as a way to conceal the shrine’s true spiritual keepers. Yuzuriha arrives at Hinoto’s after Kamui is ready to be a bitch yet again; she’s stuck upstairs and sends Inuki, her shapeshifting inugami, to let them know she’s there (and successfully breaks up the pending battle between Kamui and anyone he deems a threat, i.e. anything that breathes.)

Throughout most of her life, Yuzuriha was teased for always talking about Inuki being near her. Because only certain people can see Inuki, him being a spirit, most children she went to school with thought that he was only an imaginary friend. Because of this, Yuzuriha was often very unhappy, but soon learned that, no matter what, Inuki would always be there for her. Yuzuriha made a vow that she would never date or fall in love with anyone who couldn’t see Inuki.

When she comes to Tokyo for the first time, she meets the first person outside her family who can see Inuki. Coincidentally, that person is Kusanagi Shiyuu, who is a dragon of earth, and therefore her “enemy”, though Yuzuriha doesn’t know of Kusanagi’s role in the end of the world. They meet occasionally and it doesn’t take long for Yuzuriha to fall in love with him (and later on confess to him, but this is after the point I’m picking her up at so I’ll leave it at that.)

Yuzuriha joins Kamui and the dragons of heaven, striving to protect humanity and the world she loves. Facing off against one of the dragons of earth, Satsuki, Yuzuriha fails to answer a critical question—“why is it wrong to kill humans”—and due to her hesitance and Inuki’s effort to protect her, Satsuki’s computer (“Beast”) ends up killing Inuki. Yuzuriha is naturally distraught and disappears (Kusanagi saved her and took her to his SDF headquarters to heal). Without Inuki, she feels empty and lonely, but Inuki worked hard to save her life and she’s promised herself that she will live and enjoy the life that Inuki sacrificed himself to save.

Personality:
Yuzuriha is a bubbly and energetic girl. Though a bit dense and silly at times, she’s very friendly and very kind to everyone. Considering her age, she is surprisingly mature. She’s known for diffusing tension between Kamui and others, as her first appearance demonstrates, with her silly and carefree behavior. She’s jovial and animated. Often smiling, she’s a gleeful girl.

Underneath her silly exterior, Yuzuriha is very thoughtful and caring, and has an incredibly strong and compassionate heart. She cares about all her friends and cares about humanity, and she puts herself on the line in order to help others. She’s very easy-going and expressive—you know exactly what she’s feeling by the expression on her face. Because of this, she’s very easy to figure out, and trusting (and trust-worthy.) Her trust can be almost naïve at times, and can be dangerous in that sense.

Even when she’s unhappy, she doesn’t become downright depressed and instead tries her best to remain strong and to cherish the things that she’s been given (such as Inuki saving her life.) instead of holding resentment and bitterness, she continues to strive forward and do her very best. Unlike most of the characters in X and most of humanity for that matter, Fuuma (“Kamui”) confirms that, in the end, Yuzuriha’s true wish is to live. Each X character is represented with their own tarot card, and Yuzuriha’s is strength, a more than suitable card for her, I feel.

Sample Journal Post:
Huh? This isn’t the hospital, is it? Kusanagi-san, are you there? There’s something very important I need to say and…

This place doesn’t look like Tokyo at all. ~~Because Tokyo is~~ [kind of a mess right now.] Anyone out there? Can you tell me where I am and how to get home?

I’ve been away from the others for so long, I don’t want to worry them anymore. And now Kusanagi-san, too. If he thinks I’ve suddenly disappeared… I don’t want to be even more of a hassle to him! That won’t due at all, and even after he’d bought me these really nice clothes!

Everyone! My name’s Yuzuriha Nekoi and if anyone can give me directions home, that’d be really super! ~~I have to be strong, but even so, Inuki… I wish you were here with me.~~
